Session Code: PS112
Day and Time of Session: Thursday   08:00 AM - 11:15 AM
Title: Surgeons' Role in Cancer Diagnostics and Novel Procedures
Description: Staging of cancers is primarily based on technology. New diagnostics have been developed to complement the TNM classification. These include immunohistochemistry, RT-PCR, and gene expression assays. These new diagnostics have been FDA approved or have been established in prospective studies. This session will review what is currently published and what is under investigation in prospective trials. Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) is a common theme in surgery as new instruments and devices are developed. MIS is also becoming a part of cancer treatment. This program will review what new procedures in oncology are based upon level one evidence and what procedures are under investigation.
