The Medical Licensure Commission of Alabama requires all licensees to earn 25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ every calendar year. All (Q)ACSC holders must earn two credit hours in the area of Controlled Substance Prescribing every two years. The Board will accept any program conferring Category 1 Credit in the areas of: controlled substance prescribing practices; recognizing signs of abuse or misuse of controlled substances; or, controlled substance prescribing for chronic pain management. You do not need to obtain pre-approval of the courses you choose. ACSC holders who are otherwise exempt from the CME requirement (residents, fellows, initial licensure year, military service) are still required to obtain 2 Controlled Substance Prescribing credits every two years.
