Note 1: AJCC excludes Lacrimal Sac tumors from 7th Edition staging for the Lacrimal Gland. Lacrimal sac tumors were not excluded from AJCC 6th Edition staging.
Note 2: AJCC considers "in situ carcinoma of lacrimal gland" an impossible diagnosis. In CS Version 1 cases with extension code 000 were mapped to Tis in AJCC staging. In CS Version 2, cases with extension code 000 are mapped to TX in AJCC staging. Cases with extension code 000 are mapped to In Situ in Summary Stage 1977 and Summary Stage 2000 for CS Version 1 and CS Version 2.
Note 3: The lacrimal sac is the upper dilated end of the nasolacrimal duct, lodged in a deep groove formed by the lacrimal bone and frontal process of the maxilla. The sac connects the lacrimal canaliculi, which drain tears from the eye's surface, and the nasolacrimal duct, which conveys this fluid into the nasal cavity. The most common epithelial tumors of the lacrimal sac are squamous cell and transitional cell carcinomas.
Note 4: Periosteum is a fibrous membrane that wraps the outer surface of bones.

* For Extension codes 100, 300, 400, and 405 ONLY, the T category for AJCC 6th Edition staging is assigned based on the value of CS Tumor Size as shown in the Extension Size Table. Tumors 2.5 cm or less are T1, and tumors between 2.6 and 5 cm are T2.
