Note 1: International normalized ratio (INR) is a calculation made to standardize prothrombin time. INR is based on the ratio of the patient's prothrombin time and the normal mean prothrombin time. Prothrombin time is a test to learn how fast the blood clots in patients receiving oral anticoagulant medication.
Note 2: Normal values may vary from lab to lab.
Note 3: A high INR level such as INR=5 indicates that there is a high chance of bleeding, whereas if the INR=0.5 then there is a high chance of having a clot. The normal range for a healthy person is 0.9-1.3. INR = 5 would be recorded as 050.
